F.A.Q’s

Q: What is No-Shave Nooga?

A: No-Shave Nooga is the inaugural Chattanooga campaign to raise funds and awareness for local cancer organizations. As many cancer patients lose their hair, No-Shave Nooga is about encouraging men to embrace their facial hair and let it grow to new lengths while simultaneously donating the money usually spent on grooming to the No-Shave Nooga cause.

Q: Isn’t No-Shave Nooga just like No-Shave November?

A: No-Shave Nooga was inspired by the No-Shave November cause and follows a very similar design. They both have the same goal – to raise funds and awareness for cancer. No-Shave Nooga is different because it brings the impact home, here to Chattanooga. Chattanooga has a variety of cancer organizations that impact the lives of our friends, family, and neighbors.

Q: How did the idea come about?

A: Southern Surgical Arts surgeon fellow Dr. Talon Maningas came to Jennifer Deal, SSA Marketing Director, with the request to create an event involving men, not just women, that would give back to the local community.

This idea evolved into No-Shave Nooga. SSA is committed to giving back to their community. Throughout the year, SSA gives back to the community in a variety of ways.

At first, SSA was just going to create a team with the national No-Shave November campaign, but because the doctors were passionate about giving locally, they developed No-Shave Nooga.

Q: What is Southern Surgical Arts?

A: Southern Surgical Arts is dedicated to the art and science of cosmetic and facial plastic surgery and their state-of-the-art surgical suite and luxurious office located in Chattanooga’s Southside. Combined, Dr. Deal and Dr. Nease have more than 15 years of experience. Their practice at Southern Surgical Arts is 100% committed, focused, and dedicated to cosmetic and facial plastic surgery. Additionally, SSA is committed to giving back to their community. Throughout the year, SSA gives back to the community in a variety of ways including the Ignite Red event with the American Heart Association.

Q: How will you collect my donation to No-Shave Nooga?

A: A representative will contact you based on the information provided when you fill out the form on our Make A Pledge (link this to Make A Pledge page?) section of the website. Our representative will confirm your donation amount and collect the donation in the form of a check or credit card.

Q: How do you sign up for No-Shave Nooga?

A: There are two options. You can simply Make A Pledge (link this to Make A Pledge page?) or you can gather some friends or coworkers and Form A Team (link this to Form A Team page?) to collect pledges and donations from the community!

Q: I’m a woman– can I get involved?

A: Of course! Although No-Shave Nooga is a way to get men involved in giving, women are also encouraged to get involved directly by growing out their body hair (i.e. legs) and signing up at noshavenooga.com or indirectly by encouraging others to grow out their hair. Additionally, everyone is welcome to attend the Shave-Off for a haircut and a good time!

Q: What is the Shave-Off?

A: The Shave-Off will be at the end of the No-Shave Nooga campaign at the First Tennessee Pavilion on Nov. 22, which is also the last Chattanooga Market of the season! The supported cancer organizations will all have representatives present and participants will have the opportunity to have their faces shaved or their hair cut by local area barbers.

Q: Where will the donations go?

A: All of the money raised through the campaign and at the Shave-Off event will be split and will go directly to the five local cancer organization partners. These partners are the:

The Ronald McDonald House, www.mhchattanooga.com

The Austin Hatcher Foundation, www.hatcherfoundation.org

The Pink Heals Chattanooga Area Chapter, www.pinkhealschatt.org

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org

The American Cancer Society,  www.cancer.org

The Greater Chattanooga Colon Cancer Foundation, www.gcccf.org

Q: Will No-Shave Nooga happen next year?

A: Yes! SSA plans to make this an annual event. No-Shave Nooga will proudly continue until the disease has been obliterated from our community.

Q: How do I enter in the longest-beard/best mustache contest?

A: To enter the contest, just post pictures of your hair growth on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter with the hashtag, #NoShaveNooga. Don’t forget to include a “before the contest” shot of your clean shave combined with your “after” shot!
